Did you know ... They have discovered reidita, a mineral extremely rare, in a crater in Wisconsin (USA). Students from the University of Puerto Rico with the support of NASA collected samples at Rock Elm. Rock Elm is a place where a meteor struck. The impact generated enormous pressures. This is a necessary requirement for the reidita to be created. The first time the reidita was identified was in 1960 in a laboratory. At the moment, in its natural state, it has only been found at four points on the planet. The reidita is a silicate, it was named after Alan F. Reid. It is colorless, crystallizes in the tetragonal system and its hardness in the Mohs scale is 7.5.
