MINERALOGY: The onyx marble is called aragonite and calcite layered by evaporation of hard water deposits in layers (for this reason onyx marble is always banded) in areas of hot springs or drip chambers.

MYTHOLOGY: The marble onyx is a limestone composed of the mineral calcite and aragonite, not to be confused with chalcedony onyx. Marble was in antiquity a generic term for special stones that speak through its mottled or drawing (quote from Isidoro). this stone symbolizes riqueza.Ya Plinio remembers the material mined in quarries in Italy and Greece.
