MINERALOGY: It has a magmatic origin in pegmatites or formed by neumatolitic displacement (action of boric acid on aluminum silicates). The Dumortierite crystallizes in the orthorhombic system generally forming fibrous aggregates of elongated crystals. The crystals are glassy and its color varies from brown, blue, and green to violet and pink rarer.
MYTHOLOGY: The dumorterita was first discovered in the IXI and named after the French paleontologist Eugene Dumortier. No tradition of this mineral is not known. It is sometimes confused with sodalite and has been used as an imitation of lapis lazuli.
