Siderite

ETYMOLOGY: It comes from the greek sideros = iron, because of your composition.

CRYSTAL SYSTEM: Trigonal.

PRINCIPLE OF FORMATION: Rhombohedral.

CLASS MINERAL: Carbonates and nitrates.

CHEMICAL FORMULA, MINERAL ELEMENTS: FeCO3.

HARDNESS: 3.5 - 4.5  on the Mohs scale.

FIELDS: South Africa, UK, USA, Spain.

MINERALOGY: The siderite is a heavy mineral, has a composition of iron carbonate, usually seen in spastic bodies stacked coarse or flaky crystals originates from in metasomatic deposits (geological process corresponding subtraction. or addition of chemical components to a rock by aqueous fluids with the requirement that the rock must be kept in the solid state). In the gel state, is deposited in swampy means by action of the organic matter on dissolved ferrous bicarbonate and in the absence of oxygen.

VARIETY SIDERITA

The iron can be replaced by other minerals:

CALCIUMSIDERITA: (Fe, Ca) CO3.

MAGNIOSIDERITA: (Fe, Mg) CO3 over 40% of Mg.

MANGANOSIDERITA: (Fe, Mn) CO3, with 10-30% Mn.

OLIGONITA: (Fe, Mn) CO3, ore 40% Mn.

SIDEROPLESITA: (Fe, Mg) CO3 10-30% Mg.

SPHEROSIDERITA botryoidal  of habit.

ZINCOSIDERITA (Zn, Ca) CO3.

MYTHOLOGY: The siderite was discovered in 1845, and was named, that is composed of iron, which in Greek is "sidereal". I could be found in clusters of crystals. This mineral can be found in space, for example, the moon contains this stone as meteorites. The synonyms of siderite in Spanish are: aerosiderita, bemmelenita, chalybita, gyrita, pelosiderita or thomaíta.

PROPERTIES: It is said that siderite provides perseverance, promotes peace when you have a state of disturbing and agitated manner, is a protective mineral, decreases the fears and anxieties of the holder, so helping him cope more effectively with the optimism and everyday problems.
