ETYMOLOGY: Its name comes from the first place where it was found, Moldavia River Valley, north of Prague (Czech Republic).

MINERALOGY: The moldavite was formed about six million years ago by the impact of a giant meteorite in the current Nördlinger RIES (Germany). The molten rock from the impact projected through the air to a distance of 400 km, cooled in the air and fell to the ground in the region of Moldavia River. Moldavite has been found in its banks and hence the reason for its name.
MYTHOLOGY: It was found evidence documenting that the moldavite was used as an amulet, was first mentioned in scientific literature in the year 1787 by Josef Mayer in the Charles University in Prague, while the German name Moldavit it was first used by Dr. Franz Xaver Maximilian in 1836.
