ETYMOLOGY: Comes from the american mineralogist G. F. Kunz, who was the first to describ it in 1902.
CRYSTAL SYSTEM: Monoclinic.
PRINCIPLE OF FORMATION: Primary.
CLASS MINERAL: Inosilicates, family spodumene.
CHEMICAL FORMULA, MINERAL ELEMENTS: LiAl [Si2O6] + Ca, Mg, Mn, Na.
HARDNESS: 6,5 - 7 on the Mohs scale.
FIELDS: Brazil, Burma, Brazil, Madagascar, USA
MINERALOGY: A variety of spodumene, is formed exclusively in pegmatites rich acidic magmatic solutions of lithium, the substance that gives the pink color is manganese, often they have inclusions oriented parallel as tubículos or cracks healing.
MYTHOLOGY: It has recently been found that Green "espodúmenas" from Afghanistan heralded as hiddenite (green cromífera variety of spodumene), turned pink after a few days of sun exposure ... in fact, were the kunzitas after a "heat treatment" or irradiation turned green but not containing chromium, and lost their green light.
