Lapis lazuli

ETYMOLOGY: Comes from the Latin lapis, 'stone', and classical Arabic lāzaward, turn from Persian lağvard or lažvard, derived from the Sanskrit rājāvarta, 'terry king' = Blue stone.

CRYSTAL SYSTEM: Cubic.

PRINCIPLE OF FORMATION: Tertiary.
