FOSSIL AMOLITE

ETYMOLOGY: The amolita also known as aapoak  ("small reptadora Stone" in Kainah).

CRYSTAL SYSTEM: Hexagonal.

PRINCIPLE OF FORMATION: Secondary.

CLASS MINERAL: Organic Stone.

MINERAL ELEMENTS CHEMICAL FORMULAVariable among which are: CaCO3, SiO2, FeS2.

HARDNESS: 4.5 - 5.5 on the Mohs scale.

FIELDS: Rocky Mountains Canada, USA.

 

MINERALOGY:  It consists of the fossilized shells of ammonites, mainly composed of aragonite, it is an organic gem, the chemical composition of the amolita is variable, and besides aragonite may include calcite, silica, pyrite and other minerals. The shell itself may contain some level of trace elements, including aluminum, barium, chromium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, strontium, titanium and vanadium.


MYTHOLOGY: The Blackfeet (village Montana American Indian USA) tribe refers to as inikism Ammolite, "Stone buffalo" and used it as an amulet, specifically to aid in hunting buffalo, and track them over long distances. They also believe that it has healing properties and use in their ceremonies. In the late 1990s, Feng shui practitioners began to promote amolita as "active" gem, with detoxifying properties and reinforces the welfare and chi. Called "seventh colored stone of prosperity", each color affects practitioners of Feng Shui in a different way.
