Amethyst is one of the most beautiful varieties of the quartz group. Its name comes from Greek and means "not drunk", so from former was employed by the belief of their property counteract the effects of drunkenness.

Amethyst Quartz occurs in nature in many ways, one of the most curious is as hollow geodes or cavities, the outer part used to be composed of agate and the inside is a dense cluster of amethyst crystals which purple gives it a really spectacular appearance.

Because these quartz amethyst geodes are normally closed, after being extracted from the interior of the deposits, are cut and polished to be marketed worldwide. They come in all sizes, some reaching several meters in height. In some cases inside as well as amethyst crystals are beautiful white crystals of calcite, which gives them more value for their rarity.
